Just about any medical professional or wellness counselor will tell you how important it is to your overall health to get a good restful sleep every night. Lack of sleep can lead to most obviously, fatigue. In addition, it causes stress, poor concentration, inflammation, and new evidence seems to indicate sleep deprivation can also make you old before your time.
I am sure you are familiar with the term, get your “beauty sleep.” As it turns out that is much more than an expression. In a recent clinical trial, scientists with the Case Medical Centre found a definitive link between poor sleep habits and aging skin. The researchers concluded that poor sleepers had a greater appearance of wrinkles, and other signs of aging skin, had weaker skin in general, and skin that was more susceptible to UV radiation, and less likely to recover from damage.
Elma Baron, director of the Skin Study Centre at UH Case Medical Centre, and lead researcher on the study said, “Our study is the first to conclusively demonstrate that inadequate sleep is correlated with reduced skin health and accelerates skin ageing.”
The Beauty Sleep Study
The study involved 60 pre-menopausal women between the ages of 30 and 49, half of whom were identified as “poor quality sleepers.”
The concept of the “beauty sleep,” comes from the common belief that skin tends to repair itself overnight during restful sleep. This study provided the first definitive proof that poor sleep interferes with your skin’s natural ability to rejuvenate, repair, and protect itself.
Platelet Rich Plasma and Aesthetic Procedures
While getting a good night’s sleep is one of many proactive things you can do to improve the health of your skin, we currently have some remarkable new procedures available that can rejuvenate your skin without the need for surgery.
One of the most promising procedures uses Platelet Rich Plasma to return a more youthful look to your face, without cosmetic surgery or dangerous fillers or chemicals. It is known as the Vampire Facelift ®, not because it will give you immortality, but because it uses your own blood. I have been using the Vampire Lift successfully in my practice for both men and women.
Platelet Rich Plasma, also known as PRP, is created by separating the healing and growth factors from your blood using a centrifuge. Then this “super-charged” plasma is re-injected into your body to promote healing.
PRP has long been used in orthopedic procedures to improve joint health and promote healing of sports related injuries. More recently its use has spread to anti-aging procedures such as the Vampire Facelift®.
There have been many claims about various creams and other products that offer a “facelift in a bottle,” or devices and techniques that provide a “non-surgical facelift.” Most of these are useless at best, and some dangerous at worst. Do not confuse the PRP lift with these dubious products.
The PRP facelift is an evidence-based, medical procedure based on good science. It is one of the first procedures in the growing field of rejuvenative medicine that leverages the power of undifferentiated adult stem cells and the growth factors in your own blood to reverse the ravages of aging.
The Vampire Lift combines the proven effectiveness of natural dermal fillers to restore lost volume, and PRP to actually stimulate the birth of new skin cells to create youthful beauty and actually healthier, more vibrant skin.
The Vampire Facelift is ideal for anyone looking for gradual but noticeable improvement in skin texture, tone and color in a pain-free procedure that has little or no downtime.
